Finally, a little red in the scene. This fall, colors have been a bit muted – plenty of yellow and brown, but little of the fiery orange and red that can make autumn photos so striking. This Japanese Maple is the last tree in the yard to lose its leaves, and it gave us this shot of bright red as the season ends.

Southford Falls
Southford Falls State Park in Oxford, CT
The river opens up to a trout pond and reflective pool, and then rushes down the waterfalls and cascades. The last of this fall's colors - the yellows of the maple and beech trees - brightened up the two mile hike around the park. Throw in a riverside boardwalk, covered bridge and observation tower, and you've got a great afternoon in a beautiful spot.

Back to Normal?
As promised, we've come back from winter to autumn. These golden leaves glow in the morning sun - what's left of them anyway.
The storm cleanup continues. Nearly half a million homes in Connecticut are without power (down from almost a million Sunday), trees and branches are still scattered around yards, woods and roads. In many towns, shelters are open and schools are closed.
Power is expected to be back everywhere by Sunday, when warm and sunny weather is forecast. In other words, back to normal.

Snowbells
Hopefully, this is the last snow photo I'll share for a little while. Things are warming up, the snow is melting and the roads are being cleared of fallen trees and limbs.
