Cape May Lighthouse - Cape May, NJ
157 feet tall, 199 steps to the observation ring with views for miles across the beach and town. Functional architecture, tower and nature center. Now take a different point of view, looking up from the bottom of the stairs.

Head over to Carmi's Thematic Photographic this week for more "Pairs" photos.
Meig's Point, Hammonassett State Park in Madison, CT - after a feeding frenzy on the beach, the birds flock over to the rock jetty for a little rest and sun. And this pair took over their own rock out ahead of the others.

Or let me lump them all together and call them shorebirds! After a couple of hours on the beach I learned two things - they do not stand still, but they do come amazingly close if you just lay down in the sand and hold still.
The birds were in constant motion - hopping or running around, swirling the water, pecking at the shells - until they flew out to the rocks. As soon as something moved, be it dog or photographer, they took off in a low flying cloud. Twisting, banking and finally landing on the rocky jetty. Wait a few minutes and the the cloud flew back. They have to pick through all those shells before the tide comes back in!

I was at the shore early to try for bird photos, and the sun came up as the clouds broke in an impossibly blue sky. HDR from a single photo to bring out the rocks and grasses.
